Plant Care Guidelines

Adaptation:
Zones 4 through 9.

Light:
Sun or shade. Plant in shade in hot, dry climates and protect from wind.

Soil:
Any good, very well-drained garden soil. Plants will be stunted and sickly in heavy, wet soil.

Fertilizer:
Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer according to label directions.

Water:
How much: Apply enough water to wet the soil 2 to 3 feet deep. To determine the proper amount of water for your soil type, see How Much Water to Apply.

How often: Yews are drought tolerant once established, but they grow best in moist soil as long as it is well drained. Water when the soil is barely moist 3 to 6 inches below the surface. Hose the foliage frequently during the driest periods. For more information about watering, see About Watering.
